Mercury Amateur Radio Association - North East

annual meeting

Would you like to host the MARA NE Annual meeting in your area?

Wonder if it might be too big a job?

Check out the following ideas and, if you're ok with it, let the secretary know about your desire, or bring it up at the next annual meeting.

We like to move the meeting to a different area each year (rotating north, central & south - if possible) to make it easier for local people to attend. You might want to take a look at the minutes of past meetings to see where we've been.

1. Is it possible to use a room in your house, or can you get the use of a room in another building for the meeting, which usually runs from 10 am (folks start arriving) with the official meeting going from 11 am until 2-3 pm, with a break for lunch at noon?

2. Can you provide a lunch for a dozen people? This can be a simple as do-it-yourself sandwichs, chips and soft drinks, and packaged cookies for sweets, or as fancy as a sit down meal. Resonable costs are reimbursed by the Treasurer.

3. Would you like to provide or arrange for the meeting program? This can be on a technical or operating topic (or mixture) or on anything of interest to the MARA members. This part (after lunch) will usually take a half hour or so. Anything with Show 'n Tell is good. Perhaps you can arrange for a tour of some place of ham interest.

4. What's in your area that would be of interest to members and their spouses? Attractions, shopping, scenery, etc.

5. Does the state/province have a web site for information or maps?

6. Is there a temple nearby? Which one? Driving distance?

7. Can you provide a list (with phone numbers) of several reasonably priced motels/hotels/bed n' breakfasts in the area? What about campgrounds. By area, we mean no more than thirty minutes drive time to the meeting.

8. Is there a 2m repeater in the area that we can use if we get lost? What is its coverage on major routes? What are the frequencies/access tones?

Send the answers to the above questions (and any other information you want to include) to the secretary (marane@mara.net) so that it can be placed on the annual meeting page of this web site.
